Most people try hard to achieve a clear complexion with skincare products alone, and whilst that’s a good start there can be other factors at play such as hormones imbalances, environmental influences such as pollution and previous sun damage, as well as dermal pigmentation which raises its ugly head once again in the spring/summer months. IPL Photorejuvenation, which uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, also known as a ‘photo-facial’ for skin rejuvenation, can greatly assist with sunspots, hyperpigmentation and Rosacea, with minimal downtime.
This skin treatment can also treat broken capillaries, spider veins, enlarged pores & can reduce signs of ageing such as wrinkles or age spots. It can also improve skin elasticity, renew the colour of the skin and refresh your appearance. IPL also reduces flushing and overall discolouration on the skin
The Treatment

IPL Photorejuvenation takes at least 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the number and types of blemishes being treated or the size of the area to be treated. It delivers intense pulses of broad-spectrum light deep into the skin, working on the principle of selective photothermolysis, in which the wavelengths of light heats and destroys only the targeted tissue without damaging the surrounding tissue. The light targets the dark pigment when treating pigmented lesions, or the abnormal vessels when treating vascular lesions.
Before the treatment, the patient should wear an eye mask to protect the eyes from the light. A topical gel or forced cool air may be used to keep your skin from feeling too much heat. After that, the IPL handpiece is pressed to the problematic areas of the face/body. To treat age spots, pigmentation or freckles, light is emitted to that targeted areas that contain more melanin. The light is then absorbed by that particular area of your skin, where this light is converted into the heat. This heat damages the targeted cells leaving the surrounding tissues unaffected. Once the light is absorbed into that pigment, the body begins to naturally break this down and eliminate it. So you will get rejuvenated, fresher skin that is clearer and more even in tone and texture.
IPL Photorejuvenation can also be used to improve skin texture, firmness, pore size and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. In this case, the light on the targeted area heat up the dermis and stimulate collagen production beneath the skin, which encourages the body to produce more collagen. So this enhanced collagen production can plump out fine lines or wrinkles on the face as well as some shallow acne scars.
With IPL Photorejuvenation you will get rejuvenated, fresher skin that is clearer and more even in tone and texture. You’ll notice after IPL treatment that pigmented areas such as freckles, rosacea and age spots appear much lighter, and after a few more treatments will continue to fade and eventually will disappear.
For the best visible results, Dr Goyal recommends 2 to 4 treatments, but more may be required depending on the depth of pigmentation, size of the area to be treated and extent of the sun damage. The result may be visible after the first session. Optimal results will be achieved if you follow the instructions given by the Doctor such as the use of sunscreen and avoidance of sun exposure etc. Your next session may be performed after 4 weeks or as long as healing from your previous session is complete.
Your Doctor may also recommend complementary treatments to help you achieve your goal. Sometimes the use of chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing in conjunction with photorejuvenation will provide the best result.
Because Photorejuvenation encourages collagen production which provides hydration, it will also reduce the fine lines and wrinkles, thus providing a softer and smoother appearance, creating a more youthful, fresher appearance. However, the treatment does not stop the skin from ageing, so it's possible that new wrinkles or blemishes will appear over time. For this reason, you should undergo pulsed light therapy multiple times over a period of several years to maintain the desired results. It is less effective for tanned or darker skin.
